What it means
Proof of purchase is evidence that a transaction took place, used when claiming a remedy under the Australian Consumer Law. It is broader than a receipt and can include a tax invoice, credit card or bank statement, a lay-by agreement, or a confirmation email. Businesses must provide proof of transaction for purchases over $75 and on request. A business cannot refuse a legitimate consumer guarantee claim simply because the original till receipt is missing if other evidence exists.
