What it means
The Australian Consumer Law includes a guarantee that manufacturers or importers take reasonable steps to ensure repair facilities and spare parts are reasonably available for goods, for a reasonable period after purchase. This guarantee does not apply if the manufacturer told the consumer before purchase that parts or repairs would not be available. It supports a consumer's ability to keep using and maintaining their goods rather than discard them when something breaks.
How it's used
Because spare parts were no longer made, the buyer relied on the repairs and spare parts availability guarantee for a remedy.
